Position Summary
As a Retail Plant Associate, you will interact directly with customers while being primarily responsible for the care, upkeep, and maintenance of the plants at our Saddle River store location. This position is both hands-on and customer facing, combining maintaining plant health and appearance, assisting customers with in-store purchases and questions, and supporting cashier duties. You will help to ensure the plant areas are clean, organized, and well-maintained throughout the store and grounds areas.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the health and appearance of all in-store and outdoor plants through regular watering, pruning, cleaning, fertilizing, and general plant care.
- Monitor plant conditions daily and communicate any concerns, losses, or care needs to store leadership.
- Keep plant displays, tables, and shelving organized, clean, and visually appealing.
- Provide an exceptional and meaningful customer service experience by assisting customers with plant-related questions, product selection, and general store inquiries.
- Educate customers at a basic level on plant care, maintenance, and proper handling.
- Support cashier operations by accurately and responsibly handling the cash register for all purchases and orders.
- Assist with inventory-related tasks including restocking plant areas, checking inventory levels, and advising management of any needed replenishment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store, including plant areas, walkways, and shared retail spaces.
- Keep outdoor areas well-maintained as needed, including watering, weeding, planting, leaf blowing, and seasonal upkeep.
- Service multiple customers at a time while multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities.
- Recognize appropriate opportunities to refer customers to other departments within the organization (such as Construction or Service) while ensuring relevant information is captured.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support store operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous retail, customer service, garden center, or plant care experience
- Basic knowledge of plant care, watering, and maintenance
- Comfortable working in a customer-facing role and assisting customers with questions and purchases
- Ability to operate a cash register and handle transactions accurately
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, especially when maintaining plant displays and inventory
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced retail environment
- Comfortable performing physical tasks such as lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and working both indoors and outdoors
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as part of a team

Schedule
- Tuesday - Saturday, 10AM - 5PM
- Store hours will change depending on business season
Position Salary
- Full-Time | $16 - $20/hour
